These guide provides some background to the < Twilight > EPGP system used within the Guild and its Raids.

About
EPGP stands for Effort Points/Gear Points and is a 2nd generation DKP (Dragon Kill Points) system which attempts  to fairly allocate loot that drops during raids (no loot system is completely fair and every method favours a certain play style). This system is designed to promote good attendance, positive behaviour and boss progression – those that try the hardest, should earn the most. It was also selected because despite its initial complexity it has excellent in-game management (via the EPGP and EPGPLootMaster add-ons) which significantly reduces the effort required to manage a system of this type and enables complete transparency.

EP/Effort Points
EP is primarily earned through raid attendance; signing up, being ready on time, per 30 minutes raided, staying for the duration and killing bosses (including bonus’s for guild first kills). EP may also be awarded for other behaviour which is beneficial to the guild and it’s raids (e.g. grinding mats for the GB, leading raids or even identifying and successfully joining new members). EP may also be taken away from a member for not following guild rules and any other behaviour which is inappropriate in or out of raids. Members who sign up to raid but don’t get a raid spot still earn timed EP if they are on the standby list. To obtain any entitled EP not earned in or on standby for a raid speak to an Officer and request the award.

GP/Gear Points
GP is assigned to a player when they receive some loot – the amount is fixed by the EPGP add-on based upon the rarity, slot and iLevel of the item received.

PR/Priority
As totals for both Effort Points and Gear Points are tracked independently using this system it is the quotient (the number obtained by dividing the two) that determines a users loot priority (PR = EP/GP). Simply put the chance to receive loot is directly proportional to the effort you put in and inversely proportional to the rewards you have already got.

Decay
In order to award recent effort more than past effort, which avoids PR hoarding for veterans and enables new and dedicated members of the guild to be awarded properly a decay mechanism exists. Decay simply removes a chunk of EP and GP from everyone’s totals, effectively leaving PR unchanged for active members. Any weekly bonuses applied are always applied after the decay.

MinEP/Minimum Effort Points
Min EP puts a limit, which members should exceed in order to have any loot priority/PR. This is more or less an attendance check and a road block for new members to reach a point after which they can need on loot.

BaseGP/Base Gear Points
Base GP adds a certain GP to each member of the guild to prevent new members or long time inactive members from trumping dedicated members for loot because their GP is 0 and thus their PR infinite.

More Information
While this system is effective at fairly distributing loot it is a bit confusing so a number of other guides have been provided to get you started;
- EPGP - Awards, Penalties & Constants
- Current Instance Status
- HowTo: Check your EP, GP and PR Standings
- HowTo: Use EPGP Loot Master (and obtain loot in raid)
- HowTo: Put yourself on the raid standby list
You can also check out the EPGP website for further information, if you can take it!
